Membership Selection Process

Membership Selection Process

Because of the importance placed upon this aspect of school life, local chapters are charged with creating a selection process that conforms to the national guidelines, is applied fairly and consistently to all candidates, and provides a meaningful recognition of deserving students. Selection is a privilege bestowed upon students by the faculty of the school. Students do not apply, but are invited to complete a Candidate Form (in the Spring of their 7th grade year). Membership is open to qualified students based on five criteria areas and is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council. NJHS is more than an honor roll. Each member must demonstrate not only good grades, but also strength in each of the criteria areas. Each of the criteria areas is listed below:

  • Scholarship
  • Leadership
  • Service
  • Citizenship
  • Character
